En 1622, la villa de Madrid encargó a Lope de Vega organizar una gran justa poética y escribir dos comedias para celebrar la canonización de san Isidro Labrador, quien acababa de subir a los altares con otros tres santos españoles. Nuestra edición recoge la Relación de las fiestas y las dos comedias sobre la vida de san Isidro que compuso el Fénix.
In 1622, the City of Madrid commissioned Lope de Vega to organise a large-scale "justa poética" (literary encounter in which the participants compete by reciting their own original poems on a previously proposed theme) and to write two comedies to celebrate the canonisation of Saint Isidro Labrador, who had just ascended to the altars along with three other Spanish saints. Our edition includes the festivities celebrated and the two comedies on the life of Saint Isidro composed by "the Fénix".
