Language, which we inherit and which is inextricably linked to our social and material reality, shapes the way we understand the world, but it also helps us to transform it. Materialist linguistics, in contrast to Saussureanism, brings together schools of thought that analyse the link between language and ideology to propose an alternative paradigm.
