En Diez cartas a Montaigne el académico y poeta estonio Ju¨ri Talvet conversa con Michel de Montaigne, el gran pensador francés del Renacimiento europeo. Se estudia la relación entre el ?uno mismo' y el ?otro', cuestionándose la posición del ?otro' genérico (-lingu¨ístico), social, racial y cultural en nuestro mundo a principios del siglo XXI. A través de las diferentes cartas/ensayos dirigidos a Michel de Montaigne como receptor ideal, el autor observa con escepticismo el ?progreso humano' a la vez que destaca el creciente y positivo papel de la mujer en la historia.
In Ten Letters to Montaigne the Estonian scholar and poet Ju¨ri Talvet converses with Michel de Montaigne, the great French thinker of the European Renaissance. He focuses on the relationship between the ?self' and the ?other' questioning the position of the generic(-linguistic), social, racial, and cultural ?other' in our world at the beginning of the 21st century. He looks sceptically at ?human progress' while highlighting the growing and positive role of women in history.
